Here’s what the Green Bay Packers had to say after their 16-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers:
Head Coach Matt LaFleur:
“Give credit to Carolina. They played the game that they had to play in order to beat us, in regard to trying to run the football consistently throughout the course of the game and just make us dink and dunk the ball down the field.”
On going for it on 4th and 8 from the Carolina 13-yard line late in the game while trailing by a touchdown:
“You know, hindsight’s 20/20. I wish we would have taken the points, didn’t do that there. Bad decision.”
On Carolina’s defense pressuring QB Jordan Love
“There was a couple where they did a good job, they brought a corner cat and a backer pressure to the weak side on a second down. And then the other one was
actually a screen to (RB) Josh Jacobs, and the backers timed it up and they did a good job.”
On if today’s performance was a peek into what we can expect to see in the Philadelphia game:
“No. No. They (the Panthers) came in and played the game they wanted to play, where they wanted to play keep away, run the football, make it just a game where we have to consistently execute on offense and they did it better than we did.”
Quarterback Jordan Love
On the deep shot that got intercepted and what he saw there:
“They were playing quarters to the side Christian (Watson) was on and we had a play dialed up that I wanted to try to throw one past him, and the back side safety
was playing cloud. And I didn’t see him. He was able to push over. We didn’t have anybody holding him back side, so he was able to push over. And it was pretty much like a punt return. It was a bad decision.”
On the frustration with the performance and if they feel like they should be better than this:
“It’s very frustrating. I think everybody in that locker room is very frustrated. It’s tough. But I think the mindset, or what we’re walking out of that locker room feeling is if we don’t play our best, we’re going to get beat, just like that. No matter who it
is. So we’ve got to find ways to be at our best, and like I said, be more consistent, put up more points than this. But it’s definitely frustrating. But this is what happens if you don’t play your best, week in and week out.”
On how frustrating it is not to convert in the red zone:
“It’s very frustrating, I think everybody’s feeling that as an offense. First half, we were limited in possessions and in those games, you’ve got to maximize every time you’re on the field and we didn’t do that. You know, we were able to move the ball up and down the field, but we would stall out. Turnovers, penalties, just a lot of stuff. I think we were doing it to ourselves more than anything, too. Definitely frustrating to not be able to put up more points than that. It’s frustrating as an offense. But I feel like we’re hurting our defense as well. It’s one of those areas we’ve got to find ways to improve and keep building and put up more points. But at the end of the day, you’ve got to just keep going and find ways to maximize every
possession and end the drives with touchdowns.”
