Saturday night the Wolfpack pulled off a big upset – defeating the ACC’s undefeated team, Georgia Tech. The Wolfpack outscored Georgia Tech in all quarters and took advantage of the Yellow Jackets’ careless mistakes, with the final score being 48-36 – the most points Georgia Tech has allowed all season.Ā
NC State’s defense held Georgia Tech at bay, forcing them to kick three consecutive field goals – one of which they missed in the second quarter. Offensively, key players running back Jadyen Scott (who had a total of 192 rushing yards) and quarterback CJ Bailey (who had 340 passing yards) transformed the game, despite the Wolfpack missing starters tight end Justine Joly and running back Hollywood Smothers. Wide receivers Noah Rodgers and Tedy Hoffman also made big plays throughout the game for the Pack.
Georgia Tech continued to suffer against the Wolfpack’s defense throughout the game, and due to their own mistakes, Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King had 11 incomplete passes, including a late interception that secured the win for NC State.
In the post-conference press conference Jadyen Scott praised the offensive line and credited Hollywood Smothers, who offered him advice – telling Scott to be patient and wait for the ball to come to him. Secondly, Dave Doeren was asked about the players’ only meeting. He said, āWe needed solutions; each guy needed to be the solution in whatever his role may be.ā Doeren mentioned the need to be team-oriented to make things happen on the field. Lastly, CJ Bailey spoke about his team having the ānext man upā mindset and being able to seize the opportunity when given.
The Wolfpack have a bye next week before traveling to take on Miami November 15th.
