Here’s what the Cowboys had to say after their 30-27 loss to the Panthers
Head coach Brian Shcottnheimer on having problems against the run:
“They controlled the game on both sides. You got to give them credit for that. We knew they were a physical football team. We weren’t surprised by that. They were able to run it and we weren’t. This is a game where you got to win the line of scrimmage, and we didn’t win the line of scrimmage today. I told the team that. It’s disappointing. But I got to give them a lot of credit. They ran hard. They blocked well. We have to be better. We’ll look at it and we’ll get it fixed.”
Quarterback Dak Prescott on the offense going three-and-out on their last possession:
“At a crucial point like that, we can’t just do that. On top of that, that being the last time we touched the ball, it makes it frustrating. That’s the NFL. You trust that those guys are going to get a stop. Unfortunately, had a PI called on the third-down. After that, they just kind of ate the clock up, kept running the ball, did a good job. They won the fourth quarter. That’s the NFL. We won the turnover battle. Don’t know the big plays, but they won the fourth quarter and that was the difference there. A
team that’s obviously second-year coach, young quarterback playing well, getting better. Young running back that we’re familiar with. He told us to buckle up and he went and had a hell of a game and credit to them. They got the best and they’re the better team this afternoon.”
Dak Prescott on if he misses Rico Dowdle:
“Great job tonight. Great job last week. He told us to buckle up. He got the last laugh. We got a hell of a group of running backs. I love my team, but I miss the guy. Rico is a hell of a friend, but I’m proud of him more than anything. As I said, I messaged him last week, but I didn’t get to see him right after the game. I’ll connect with him. He knows there’s nothing but love.
Cowboys defensive tackle Kenny Clark on seeing the Panthers run the ball as well as they did:
“It’s very frustrating. You want to stop the run and get them in passing situations. When we did, we were able to get stops, but they were able to stay on first and second down most of the day.”
Wide receiver George Pickens on the the coverages shown by the Panthers at the start of the game:
“We kind of knew – especially what type of coverages they are going to play – like the cut guys, like the cut-overs, lean post hanging, sometimes not cut-overs. See what I mean? They are a match team. We kind of knew that, we just wanted to execute.”
