The Carolina Panthers came out “really clean” injury-wise after Friday’s preseason game against the Browns according to head coach Dave Canales.
Here’s an update on the Panthers’ injuries:
Hunter Renfrow:
Hunter Renfrow was a full participant at Monday’s padded practice after missing time over the last couple of weeks with a hamstring injury.
Jaycee Horn:
Jaycee Horn has been sidelined since last Wednesday after receiving stitches on his left hand due to a car accident.
Horn did not participate in practice. According to Canales it’s mainly a precaution, but they still aren’t sure if he’ll be ready for Thursday’s joint practice with the Texans.
“If we were playing a gameāa regular season game – he would be fine to do that. He would be out there at practice kind of taking care of it. Because we are in preseason mode right now, I think he had some stitches in between his thumb and index finger and so we just gotta make sure that it’s healing up the right way, so that no infections happen or there’s no setbacks. Itās not worth it to put him in that situation.
“I think we have a couple of days to see if we can bandage that up, because I know Jaycee would love to be out there at the practice and compete against other guys. I love what the Texans have done with their wide receiver room. [They have] two Iowa State guys who I liked, [Jayden] Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Both of those guys adding to that group with Nico Collins, I’m sure he would be excited to get out there and go against those guys.”
LaBryan Ray:
Defensive tackle LaBryan Ray injured his ankle during practice and is listed as week-to-week.
“I was told that he responded really well to his early initial treatments, so they’re confident that we’ll be able to get him back during this preseason,” Canales said. “I don’t know if it’s gonna be for this game, but I’m hopeful that heāll be back for the Pittsburgh week.”
Rob Hunt:
Offensive guard Robert Hunt left during a portion of practice, but was able to return.
“He had like two more plays afterwards,” Canales said. “They were looking at his ankle and I noticed he did have tape on his ankle at the end of practice, but he was walking around and got on the cart. So if they have any more information for me, we’ll probably let you know the next time around.”
Damien Lewis:
Offensive guard Damien Lewis did not participate in practice. Last week Canales told us he’s week-to-week after straining his shoulder during the joint practice with the Browns.
The Panthers will practice again Tuesday before traveling to Houston for a joint practice with the Texans on Thursday and a preseason game on Saturday.
