So many story lines surround this game; the greatest rivalry in college basketball, Duke getting revenge for spoiling their regular season finale, UNC retiring Coach K…. The list could go on, but simply put – this is THE ONE and if you want to be in the building it’s going to cost you.
As of Monday morning, the lowest cost of a flight from Raleigh-Durham airport to New Orleans leaving Friday and returning Tuesday will cost you around $1,576. A flight from Charlotte to New Orleans leaving Friday and returning Tuesday will cost you around 2,174.
Driving is obviously a cheaper option, but it will take you around 13 hours to get there from Durham. Based on the roughly 900 mile trip and the average cost of gas in the US at $4.24, the total cost of driving would be roughly $200.
Once you get there you’ll need somewhere to stay. A room at a basic hotel near the airport costs $369 a night, which will be nearly $1,700 for the five days. If you’d like to stay closer to Superdome hotels are averaging $765 per night, which would be a total cost of $3,559 for five nights. Air B&B is also an option. You can rent a room in New Orleans for five nights for about $1068.
Now, for the main event. Monday morning on Stubhub the lowest priced tickets for the Final Four Semifinals were $369. That will put you in the end zone, section 649, row 20. If you want to sit on the lower level at center court it’s going to run you a whopping $65,000.
Total cost it will be between $2,269 – $70,434 to watch one of the most highly anticipated games in college basketball history. Is it worth it?
