Jon Scheyer Lands First Prized Recruit

Top recruits continuing to commit to Duke proves the brand is bigger than just the Coach K following.

Four-Star stretch forward Kyle Filipowski decided to join the brotherhood, officially beginning the Jon Scheyer era at Duke University that formally starts next season – his official first year at the helm of the men’s basketball program.

Kyle Filipowski, who is ranked 20th overall on the 2022 ESPN’s high school basketball rankings, is also the fourth-overall ranked power forward in the class.

The high school senior averaged 21 points and 13 boards this season at Wilbraham & Monson Academy. The versatile big man is lights out from deep and can put the rock on the floor – attacking the rim viciously. In addition, he doesn’t shy away from contact and attacks the glass on both sides of the ball. His ability to keep the defense honest with his shooting will make him a force to be reckoned with from all phases on the offensive side of the ball.

Filipowksi chose Duke over Kentucky, Michigan, and Tobacco road rival UNC.

Duke ties

Filipowski’s AAU team’s executive director is the nephew of Coach K’s wife Mickie Krzyzewski. Moreover, former national champion Chris Duhon is an assistant coach on his AAU team, according to the Duke Chronicle.

This may be a huge weekend for Duke as the Blue Devils are in the running for 5-star sensation Dariq Whitehead, who is slated to announce his college decision Sunday, August 1st. Numerous crystal ball selections (24/7 sports) have him choosing Duke.
