Blue Devils Look to Get their First Win of the Season Against Boston College

Duke gave 10th ranked Notre Dame all they could handle last week in their season opener, but the Blue Devils don’t take the field looking to moral victories. The goal is to get real wins and they’ll look to do that Saturday against Boston College at Wallace Wade Stadium.

“It’s week two,” head coach David Cutcliffe said during his weekly press conference. “Our locker room was a blend of disappointment in South Bend, but also of understanding that we’re different than we were a year ago. And we are. But to prove it – to prove that we’re a good football team, you don’t prove it by playing well and playing well against a great opponent, you prove it by winning. And what this team has to do is put the bumps and the bruises behind you.”

Coach Cutcliffe expects the Blue Devils’ home opener will be another physical matchup against a Boston College team who’ll be playing their first game of the season.

“Boston College we know very little about. New staff so they haven’t played a game. All we can do is do the research, the work, and prepare our team as well as we possibly can. We know it’ll be another physical game against a very physical team. Both fronts offensively and defensively. They’ve had a few graduate transfers come in there to increase that physicality and defensive front. So, we’re looking forward to another ACC football game. Every week you’re playing conference football and you better play at a high level.”

Under Coach Cutcliffe, Duke is 10-2 in home openers. The last time the Blue Devils faced an ACC opponent in its home opener was back on Sept. 10, 2005 (Virginia Tech 45, Duke 0).  This year’s matchup will be the eighth meeting between the two schools with Boston College leading the series, 4-3.

Kickoff between the Blue Devils and Eagles is set for 12:00 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on RSN.
