Tyler Hansbrough Bloodied After Being Elbowed by Gerald Henderson
Back on March 4, 2007, Duke and North Carolina met in Chapel Hill. UNC dominated the game, but it was Gerald Henderson’s blow that would have a lasting effect. With 17 seconds remaining, Hansbrough missed the second of two free throws, grabbed the rebound off his miss and went back up for the basket, but Gerald Henderson had other plans – delivering a blow that sent Tyler to the Dean Dome floor, where his nose instantly began gashing blood. Hansbrough ended up with a broken nose and had to play with a protective mask on his face in the postseason.
Danny Green Posterized Greg Paulus
Greg Paulus missed a three-point attempt. Danny Green grabs the rebound and passes it to Marcus Ginyard. Paulus backpedals to get back on defense. Ginyard passes back to a trailing Green. Paulus steps up to take the charge and sees this…
Zion Williamson Exploding Shoe
There’s hype around every Duke vs Carolina basketball game, but the February 2019 matchup was the most in recent history. It was the hottest ticket in the country and some paid upwards of five figures for a seat in the building to see the Zion Williamson led Blue Devils take on Coby White and the Heels. Less than a minute into the much anticipated contest Williamson’s shoe blew out. He would leave the game and wouldn’t return to the court until the ACC Tournament weeks later.
Austin Rivers Stunner
Duke was down 10 points with about 2:00 left in the game. Then Duke’s Tyler Thornton and Seth Curry hit back to back threes. Ryan Kelly missed a three and Tyler Zeller accidentally tipped the ball in for the Blue Devils with 14 seconds remaining. Duke fouls Zeller, who makes 1 of 2 free throws putting the Tar Heels up by 2. The Blue Devils got the rebound off the second Zeller miss and then “The Shot” happened. Rivers hit a game-winning three over Zeller.
Dean Smith Remembered
11 days before the much anticipated Duke vs UNC game in 2015 Dean Smith died. To honor the legend both teams and coaches met at center court of Cameron Indoor Stadium and took a knee during a moment of silence.
