Greg Olsen Checks Reporter for Using Misleading Title; Twitter Responds

For one week the NFL’s notoriously stringent uniform policy will give players the opportunity to promote causes that are dear to their hearts through their cleats.

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen wrote a piece for The Players Tribune telling the very personal story of his son’s battle with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and the cleats that he’ll be wearing Sunday representing the HEARTest foundation he started to help families going through the same thing.

ESPN’s beat writer for the Panthers, David Newton, shared the story this morning with a title that was a little misleading (deemed “click bait” by fans) and Greg Olsen replied.

I must admit, when I saw the title it gave me pause also.   It seemed controversial.

Twitter caught on to the exchange and hilariously responded.

As a writer and publication owner I know that revenue is all in the clicks and while I don’t see anything wrong with enticing titles, I’ve got to side the the fans on this one.  The title was total click bait.

Newton did apologize to Olsen and cleaned up his original title.
