Ron Rivera Doesn’t Think It’s “Fair” for NC to Lose Sporting Events Due to HB2

North Carolina has lost tens of millions of dollars with the recent announcements of event relocations due to the state’s controversial House Bill 2 and local sports fans have lost out on the opportunity to participate in some of this country’s best sporting events. Carolina Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera doesn’t think this is fair.  When asked on Thursday his thoughts on the bill and it’s affect on the sports world, he was very clear that he believes the two should remain separate.

“I didn’t think it was fair. We were using sports as pawns. We weren’t happy with the politics in Russia. What did they do? They were invading Afghanistan,” Rivera reminded.

“To me, it’s about sports. People come to the stadium to get away.

“As far as I’m concerned, sports is sports and politics is politics. You want to talk politics; you want to get involved — throw your hat in the political ring. You want to make change — vote. Vote. That’s the truth of the matter.”

Rivera has a point, and I’m sure a lot of North Carolina sports fans would agree.  But sometimes you have to hit people where it hurts.  You have to fight injustice where it will make the most impact…in their pockets.
