Twin brothers Malik and Mikehi always watched the Carolina Panthers game with their father Michael and they were scheduled to attend their first NFL game when the Panthers played the Colts on Monday Night Football, but just ten days before, Malik and Mikehi’s father was murdered.
“Some people knocked on the door. I was like, what’s wrong with my daddy? They said he passed. I said I can’t believe in this stuff. And then, I called his phone but he didn’t answer, so I was like this junk is true,” said Malik.
A school counselor, who wanted to help ease the grief of the high school students, contacted the Panthers and told them their story. What happened next brought surprising joy to their faces.
“This is the greatest quarterback ever!” says Malik, holding an autographed picture of Newton. “Luke Kuechly!” He said, holding a second autographed picture of the Panther’s linebacker. “He is the greatest defensive player of all time. I don’t care what anyone say. He was my dad’s favorite defensive player.”
No suspect has been arrested in connection with Malik and Mikehi’s father’s murder.
