Last year, Duke’s National Championship team wasn’t only known for their outstanding play on the court. Their hair was often a point of discussion on social media where the squad was clowned for what became known as the “Duke Starting 5 Haircut.” Four of the Blue Devils’ five starters have moved on to the next level, but that doesn’t mean people have forgotten. In fact, social media has found another ACC star to troll about it.
In a recent interview, UNC senior Marcus Paige addressed questions he’s gotten on Twitter asking why he’s copying off the school’s arch rival.
“People tweet at me all the time,” he said with a small laugh on Monday at UNC’s annual basketball media day.
What do they tweet? He went on.
“Like, you got the Duke starting five haircut,” Paige said, repeating the gist of what people have been saying to him for a while now on Twitter.
“Yeah,” he said. “But my thing is like are they the only people that have ever grown their hair out?”
“Like, I mean – you look in the NBA, you look all across America right now, everyone grows their hair out,” Paige said.
“So if I decide to grow my hair out,” Paige said. “I’m pretty sure it’s independent of what the people down the road do.”
