The injury has been described as one similar to what Tony Romo suffered.
From what I've heard, Newton's back injury is comparable to what Dallas QB Tony Romo suffered.

#Panthers PR said that Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his back, similar to Tony Romo. Romo missed a week, then returned

The Panthers are expected to update Newton’s status for Sunday’s game during tomorrow’s press conferences, but it’s likely he’ll miss Sunday’s game against Tampa.
Just spoke with a sports doc who said Cam's cracked ribs from earlier this season were more serious than this specific injury

"Highly unlikely" Newton plays this week, the doc said. I'll have more in a full story later tonight

It is a blessing things weren’t worse.
