Steve Spurrier Says He’s Pretty Sure Someone Would Hire Marcus Lattimore at USC

After having a promising football career derailed by injuries, former South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore is contemplating retirement without ever seeing action in a NFL game.  Although disappointing, Lattimore’s story of what could’ve been may not have the a bad ending.

When asked at a recent press conference about Lattimore’s future and possible employment with the Gamecocks, head coach Steve Spurrier all but said a job was waiting on him.

This is good to hear.  You never want to see an athlete not be able to reach his potential due to injuries, but larger issue here is that a guy like Lattimore, who was so talented and brought so much money to USC, won’t be able to profit from his talent due to injuries sustained while in college.  If Marcus’ case isn’t one for extreme reform to the joke that is current collegiate athletic system of “amateurism,”  I don’t know what is.
