According to Ian Rapoport, Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks will have surgery today to repair a core muscle injury. He will be placed on injured reserve and is expected to be sidelined at least six weeks.
Brooks aggravated his groin injury during the 4th quarter of the team’s week two win against the Atlanta Falcons.
Brooks has been sidelined by a string of injures in recent years.
He tore the ACL in his right knee while playing at Texas, causing him to miss the end of his college season and the first few months of his rookie NFL career.
In week 14 of 2024 he suffered a re-tear of the same right ACL in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, forcing him to miss the entire 2025 NFL season after being placed on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list.
Near the end of training camp he dealt with groin issue/soreness that limited him in practices leading up to the 2026 season.
After sustaining the injury in last week’s win against the Falcons, Brooks immediately went into the medical tent and looked visibly emotional when he emerged a few minutes later. He then hugged and prayed with teammate Chuba Hubbard before heading to the locker room.
