It’s one thing to be available. As cliché as it is, sometimes the best ability is really availability. Being ready, however, is a different conversation.
Brycen Tremayne has been working on being ready for the moment. Ready for whatever the Carolina Panthers ask of him this season. For him, it means sharpening and refining details in his routes, blocks, and his overall approach.
After getting his first full season of playing time, Tremayne is trying to use his experiences to carve out a bigger role in the offense.
`You’ve made an impact on special teams. But when you look at yourself as a receiver, what do you think you developed the most since you got here in Carolina
I think what I developed the most since I got here are the big things that me and Rob (Rob Moore, wide receivers coach) have worked on: my stride length. Like coming off the ball and making it look like a go (route) every single time and not being choppy out. So I think that aspect, and then my blocking improved throughout the year last year. I hope to keep improving that, and everything else as well—whether it’s my route running or catching.
What is something specific about your route running that you’d like to work on? You mentioned disguising some routes. Can you delve more into that?
Just making everything look the same. My stride length off the ball, or my pad level in and out of the break are two things I’m trying to get better at. (I want to) keep getting better as a wide receiver.

As a receiver, what part of your game do you feel like you need to improve? Is it different from route running? What else is there?
I play all three positions, but I want to get more comfortable with the slot. I’ve done a lot of Z and X while I’ve been here, but I want to know the F position as well and just try to be a Swiss army knife and able to do it all. So if they need me to go anywhere, I can do that.
Are you anticipating being in the slot at any point this season?
I haven’t done a lot of F in OTAs and training camp, but I try to study the whole concept, and if they put me there, I’m comfortable going there.
When you look at the receivers and the different strengths that you guys bring, what do you think your strength is and how does it mesh into what the unit is trying to do?
I think we have a great wide receiver group and a lot of talent. I think everyone grew up a lot last year, including myself. I was in my third year last year, but it was really my first full year playing. So I think whether T-Mac being a rookie and having the year he did, or ‘Coke (Coker) having his big year last year, everyone kind of grew up and matured as a unit.
And what I bring to the room is just giving 100 percent effort on every play. You know, whether it’s a pass or a run – bringing physicality to the room. I think that’s what I bring.
You mentioned maturity as a unit. What does that look like?
It looks like ‘What are you doing during the week?
How are you studying and prepping your body? I think everyone in the room figured out what works for them. We talk to each other about looks on different routes and how to work the DB. It could be how to run something versus zone or man. Just open conversation.
