On the last drive of the Panthers’ 20-17 loss to the Saints’ safety Lathan Ransom was flagged for a late hit on New Orleans’ quarterback Tyler Shough. After the win, Shough said he “sold” being hurt after the play.
“I may have sold a little bit because I know we didn’t have any timeouts. So, I mean, it definitely hurt, but I was good. And we had to be in that scenario. We were going to clock it.”
During his Monday press conference we asked Carolina head coach Dave Canales about the admission.
“I won’t even comment on that,” Canales responded. For us, I try to look at our responsibility for it. Those are really difficult situations – Derrick’s and Lathan’s. These are bang band decisions. They happen so fast and you have to be able to make that judgement call.”
After the game Derrick Brown didn’t hesitate to criticize the penalties.
“I think is was a bs call,” Brown said. He did it all day. He’s sliding late. I don’t know what they want us to do.”
The road to the Panthers’ playoff hopes now goes through Tampa Bay – a team they’ll this week and again in week 18.
