The Dean Smith Stadium brought out a crowd last night, with the UNC men’s basketball team facing off against Navy. The final score for last night’s game was 73-61, with North Carolina bringing home the victory.
In the first half the Tar Heels got off to a slower start than expected, turning the ball over five times to Navy’s one. Despite the number of turnovers in the first half, the Tar Heels had an answer for the physicality and vigilance the Navy brought against them. Caleb Wilson, with his third consecutive double-double of the season, had 23 points and 14 rebounds Luka Bogavac, the consistent three-pointer shooterof last night’s game, ended with 16 points.
By halftime Navy was trailing by seven points. With eight minutes remaining in the second half the Tar Heels went on an 11-0 run before Navy went on a 15-0 run in the last two minutes of the game – closing a once 24 point deficit that ultimately proved insurmountable.
In a post-conference with Caleb Wilson, Henri Veesaar and Coach Hubert, all three were questioned about the post-game player meeting, presumably about their performance in yesterday’s game, despite the victory. Caleb and Henri’s responses emphasized cleaning up the team’s performance, because they had 13 turnovers. Coach Hubert didn’t seem phased by the team calling a player meeting; he expressed positive feelings, saying he likes the team communicating with each other, knowing they have work to do to prepare for future games.
The Tar Heels’ next game will take place on Tuesday, the 25th, against St. Bonaventure at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
