Yesterday evening at the Wallace Wade Stadium, the Blue Devils and the Wolfpack faced off in a battle between the Triangle. The Blue Devils outplayed the Wolfpack in the second half – defeating NC State 45-33.
The Wolfpack set the tone for the first half of the game, with CJ Bailey throwing a 75-yard touchdown pass to Terrell Anderson within the first two minutes of the game. This play started the Wolfpack off on the right foot, allowing them to be up by 13 points with 5:45 remaining in the second half, but two Blue Devils touchdowns before the break, but Duke up 21-20 at halftime.
The Wolfpack struggled to recover, plagued by fumbles and interceptions, in addition to multiple missed field goals. In the third and fourth quarters, the Blue Devils took control of the game – leading to their first conference victory.
After the loss Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren emphasized accountability to the team. Despite the Wolfpack taking a loss last night, this team is very tight-knit and keeps each other grounded. Smothers was then questioned about CJ Bailey and his performance at Wallace Wade Stadium during the press conference. āCJ gotta keep being CJ,ā Smothers said.
This team is aware of their mistakes in the game against Duke and are eager to put in the work to bounce back from this loss. Needless to say, this team is deeply rooted in purpose and reliance. The next game for the Wolfpack will be this Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium against Virginia Tech at 7 pm.
