Turk Wharton to Miss Extended Time

Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton left the Panthers’ week one loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars during the second quarter after sustaining a hamstring injury. During his Monday afternoon press conference head coach Dave Canales said the five year veteran, who was a free agent signing out of Kansas City, will miss extended time.

“Turks’ got a hamstring and will miss a little bit of time,” Canales said. “I think right now it looks like it will be in that two to four weeks range. We got an MRI on him today and he was having a fantastic game. He had four tackles early on and was really doing a great job getting off of blocks and making his opportunities.”

Canales did not say if they will place Wharton on injured reserve.

With Wharton out expect Bobby Brown, another free agency addition, to slide into the starting role.
