The inclement weather didn’t stop the Panthers show Tuesday and it won’t stop the show for Wednesday’s joint practice with the Browns.
“What a gift,” head coach Dave Canales exclaimed after the rain-soaked session. “Just to get the experience. That could happen to us early in the season with some of the storms that have been rolling through.”
Continuous rain fell, at times extremely hard, during the practice that lasted nearly an hour and forty five minutes. The Panthers went through all of their normal drills and team periods as if the rain wasn’t there. The only indicator of the weather was the noticeable uptick in dropped balls on both offense and defense.
“I think the passing was a little sloppy,” Canales continued. “What would be some obvious catches for guys went through hands on both sides.”
The rain was also a non factor for the players.
“I was in Seattle, so you gotta get used to it,” cornerback Mike Jackson said. “Rain is rain, you’re going to get wet regardless.”
The forecast is calling for similar weather Wednesday morning when the Panthers host the Browns for a joint training camp practice and like Tuesday it will be business as usual – rain and all.
“We’re just going to practice,” Canales said when asked if he and Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski discussed any contingency plans. “The field was great. There wasn’t a lot of slipping. Our grounds crew have done an amazing job making sure that it’s draining properly. We’ll go out there and we’ll practice. I think Kevin expects that. He texted me this morning and said ‘looks like rain for the next 37 days.’ It will be good. The energy will be good. With the competitive environment they won’t even be thinking about the water. I promise you.”
