During his Monday afternoon press conference Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales announced that rookie running back Jonathan Brooks will be out indefinitely after tearing the ACL in his right knee. It’s the same ACL he tore in November of last year while at Texas.
“My heart is with him,” Canales said. “The amount of hard work that he put in to get back to this place. He’s heartbroken. I’m heartbroken. The whole group is just feeling for him.”
Brooks was injured during the 1st quarter of their week 14 matchup against the Eagles. With 2:12 remaining in the 1st quarter, Brooks went down without contact just moments after taking the handoff from Bryce Young. He then tried to hop off the field before falling to his knees. After which he was helped off the field and taken to the locker room on a cart after spending time in the medical tent.
Brooks will have surgery some time in the near future. Test showed there was no further ligament damage in his knee.
