Drake Maye to Get 1st Start vs Texans

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Patriots will start No. 3 overall draft pick and former Tar Heel Drake Maye on Sunday against the Houston Texans.

While it remains unannounced if he will replace Jacoby Brissett for the remainder of the season, it is an anticipated change with the Patriots 1-4 start of the season.

Maye is a dual-threat quarterback with deep arm strength and his presence has the potential to shake up the New England offense. But similar to North Carolinas’ offensive line, the Patriots are a bit shaky after being riddled with injuries and missed assignments. A relatively new unit, they’ve allowed Brissett to be pressured on half of his dropbacks. However, the veteran Brissett is also yet to throw for 200 yards this season and the teams’ passing offense is ranked last in the league.

Despite the challenges, Maye’s debut marks a significant milestone in his young career. He is just 22-years-old, but his dynamic playing style is the spark this team needs and perhaps an indicator towards a better future.

As the Patriots prepare to face the Texans, all eyes will be on the rookie quarterback. The Maye era in New England has officially begun, and with it comes renewed hope for a franchise looking to turn its season around and reclaim its place among the NFL’s elite.
