CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –– Tonight marks the first meeting between NC Central (1-1), an FCS school and North Carolina (2-0).
The Tar Heels are looking to extend their win streak to three and establish dominance in their first meeting with the Eagles. UNC is 2-0 for the fifth time in the last six years and is second in the ACC in overall wins since head coach Mack Brown returned to Chapel Hill in 2019.
This past Saturday, the Eagles dropped their home opener against Elon falling 41-19 marking the first time the program has fallen in a home opener under head coach Trei Oliver and their first home loss since 2021.
Quarterback Walker Harris threw for 181 yards and a touchdown. J’Mari Taylor and Chris Mosley each had a rushing touchdown.
The run game tonight will be a special aspect to look at on both teams, as freshman back Davion Gause and veteran Omarion Hampton have both been productive for the Tar Heels. In just his second collegiate game, Gause rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Conner Harrell will be making his second start as signal caller for North Carolina and it will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure from the Eagles offensive line tonight.
While the Tar Heels enter as heavy favorites, aiming to maintain their early-season momentum and showcase their offensive firepower, NC Central will be eager to bounce back from their recent loss and prove themselves against an FBS opponent.
As these two face off for the first time, fans can expect an energetic atmosphere and some potential surprises on the field, making this in-state battle an intriguing one
