The Charlotte 49ers had their first practice of fall camp Friday morning. After the session, head coach Biff Poggi announced that former Carolina Panthers’ interim head coach Steve Wilks will be joining the football staff in a voluntary advisory role.
Wilks, a Charlotte native and graduate of West Charlotte high school, was the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator last season. According to PFF, with a grade of 90.8, the San Francisco 49ers’ defense tied with the New York Jets for the best defense in the 2023 NFL season.
