This offseason Carolina picked up cornerback Jaycee Horn’s fifth year option – keeping him under contract with the Panthers through 2025, after which he would become a free agent unless he and the team agree to terms on a contract extension.
It’s not unusual for teams to begin preliminary discussions with top players in the fourth year of their rookie deals but Horn, who has struggled with injuries during his career, is only focused on one thing – being available.
“I don’t even think about extensions. I’m focused on showing these guys I can be available and putting out good tape on Sunday,” Horn said when asked if he’d like to have a deal done before the season.
There’s no question that Horn has the potential to be one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, the only question is if the former Gamecock can stay healthy for a full season to prove it.
“I want to prove to myself that I am who I say I am. That I am one of the best corners in the league – just being available and being able to help my teammates. I feel like I can show that.”
