The Carolina Panthers selected Texas tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders with the 1st pick in the 4th round (101 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft.
A three-year tight end who appeared in 39 games with 27 starts, Smith ranks first all-time among Texas tight ends in career receptions (99), second in receiving yards (1,295) and sixth in receiving touchdowns (seven). He was the Longhorns’ third leading receiver with 45 receptions for 682 yards (two touchdowns) in 2023.
The self proclaimed “friend of the group who’s always going to put a smile on your face,” takes pride in his ability to create mismatches and making opposing defenses account for his whereabouts at all times.
When we asked about his familiarity with Panthers’ quarterback Bryce Young, Sanders immediately mentioned that while at Alabama he led the Tide to a victory in Austin – adding that he’s a true leader and someone he wants to throw him touchdowns.
