The Florida State Seminoles defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies, 86-76, to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2024 ACC Tournament. The Seminoles will face UNC Thursday at noon on ESPN.
The Tar Heels and Seminoles faced each other twice during the regular season with the Heels defeating Florida State in both matchups.
UNC vs Florida State:
- Carolina is 55-16 against the Seminoles, including two wins this season and four in a row.
- The Tar Heels are 5-3 against FSU in the ACC Tournament. This is the first meeting in the ACC Tournament since the Seminoles beat Carolina, 69-66, in Greensboro in the 2021 semifinals.
- The teams met in Chapel Hill to open ACC play on December 2 as then Tar Heels rallied from 14 down in the second half to win, 78-70. Carolina went on a 22-0 run, taking the lead on an Elliot Cadeau layup with 7:20 to play. RJ Davis led UNC with 27 points.
- On January 27 in Tallahassee, UNC overcame 17 turnovers and a five-point halftime deficit for a 75-68 win. Davis scored a game-high 24 and Cadeau added 16, which was his season high to that point. Harrison Ingram had 13 points, 17 rebounds, three steals, a key block and made three 3FGs
UNC in the ACC Tournament:
- Carolina is the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament for a record 27th time.
- The Tar Heels are 106-51 with 18 championships in the ACC Tournament.
- Carolina’s most recent title came in 2016 in Capital One Arena (then named the Verizon Center). Tournament MVP Joel Berry II scored a game-high 19 points to lead seventh-ranked UNC past fourth-ranked Virginia, 61-57, for the title.
- Carolina is second in ACC history in championships (18), wins (106) and tied for first innchampionship game appearances (35).
- The Tar Heels are 4-1 in Washington, D.C., with a 3-0 record in 2016 and a 1-1 record in all five previous games were played in Capital One Arena.
- The Tar Heels have won 72.5% of their ACC Tournament games outside the state of North Carolina and 65.8% in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh.
