Party Spoilers: Can The Tar Heels Duplicate the Magic from Two Years Ago?

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –– I woke up and hopped on Twitter today and was reminded that on this date two years ago, UNC walked into Cameron Indoor Stadium like they owned the place and beat the Blue Devils in head coach Mike Kryzewski’s final career home game.

As No.7 North Carolina (23-6, 15-3) enters tonight’s matchup against Notre Dame they are not worried about their NCAA Tournament bubble status, instead the Tar Heels are sitting comfortably at the top of the ACC standings – nothing compared to last year’s disastrous positioning.

They are in contention for a potential No.1 seed and are on track to winning the ACC regular season title, sitting a game ahead of No.9-ranked Duke.

The Tar Heels have won the ACC regular season 32 times and ACC Tournament championship 18 times, but it’s been five years since they last won the regular season title back in the 2018-19 season.

If they can replicate what they did two years ago and grab another win over the Devils, the title will be theirs.

And if they can accomplish this and use some of the magic that defined their historic run that carried them all the way to the Final Four back in 2022, Carolina basketball will be back in its purest form and they’ll prove all the naysayers wrong.
