For the second week in a row the Panthers have lost a key defensive player. Shaq Thompson went down during the first quarter of the Panthers’ 17-20 loss to the New Orleans Saints with a lower body injury. At the time of the injury the prognosis looked grim.
During his Monday press conference head coach Frank Reich announced that Thompson, a veteran leader and team captain, will miss the remainder of the season while recovering from a broken fibula. Shaq had surgery that morning to repair his leg.
Reich said he and general manager Scott Fitterer are still discussing options to fill that role, but expect Kamu Grugier-Hill to see increased playing time in Thompson’s absence.
