Friday the Carolina Panthers return home for the 2023 preseason finale to take on the Detroit Lions at Bank of America Stadium.
The Panthers enter the match up 0-2 on the preseason after falling to the New York Giants this past week, 21-19. After trailing 21-3 at halftime, Carolina outscored New York 16-0 in the second half of play to narrow the deficit.
Led by third-year head coach Dan Campbell, the Lions own a 1-1 record in the preseason. In Week Two, Detroit fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 25-7.
Friday’s match up will mark the first time in history these two teams have squared off in the preseason. The two will meet once again in the regular season, as Carolina travels to Detroit in Week Five. The Panthers hold a 8-3 overall record against Detroit in the regular season.

About Carolina
- The Panthers were shut out by the Jets in week one of preseason for the first time since 2000. The last time it happened was Aug. 10, 2000, when the Steelers posted a 20-0 win at Three Rivers Stadium.
- The Panthers put up 235 total yards of offense in week two against the Giants. This number is up from the first preseason game against the Jets, when they posted just 165 yards. The Panthers didn’t turn the ball over once against New York, recording no interceptions and no fumbles. The Giants did not commit any turnovers either.
- In limited preseason snaps quarterback Bryce Young is 7-12 for 56 yards, with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.
- Quarterback Matt Corral completed nine-of-13 passes for 71 yards against the Giants (82.5 passer rating). In two preseason games, Corral is now 24 of 35 (68.6 completion percentage) 197 yards.
- Expect Carolina’s starters’ playing time to mimic that from week one and two, where they averaged three series.
About Detroit
- The Lions defeated the Giants in week one of the preseason, amassing 327 total yards and allowing New York to convert just 2-13 third down attempts.
- Against the Jaguars in week two Detroit totaled 131 yards of total offense, converting just 1-12 third down attempts.
- Lions’ starting quarterback Jared Goff has yet to play in the preseason, with Nate Sudfeld and newly acquired Teddy Bridgewater carrying the load.
- In two games Sudfeld is 24-46 for 274 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Last week Bridgewater was 5-11 for 34 yards.
- The Lions will likely rest their starters for the final preseason game.
