3 Things We Hope to Learn at Frank Reich’s Introductory Press Conference

The Carolina Panthers will officially introduce Frank Reich as their new head coach Tuesday at 1pm. Here are three things we hope to learn during the event:

Plan at Quarterback

Frank Reich is the Panthers’ first head coach with an offensive background – a clear departure from the norm and one of the main reasons he was selected over interim coach Steve Wilks. The Panthers went from one failed reclamation project to another, and another, under former head coach Matt Rhule. The team has to find continuity at that position and Frank Reich will play a large role in that.

So, what is his plan? Will the Panthers be aggressive and get their guy in the draft? Will they make a splash and sign a free agent? Will they keep Sam Darnold and look to develop Matt Corrall? There are several directions the Panthers can go this offseason. Which one is Reich’s preference?

Staff

It’s been reported that one of the reasons the Panthers were high on Reich is that he had already begun reaching out to potential coaches to fill out his staff. During an interview with team reporter Kristen Balboni, Reich said he’s committed to giving the Panthers one of the best staffs in the NFL – calling the process he will take selecting them “methodical.” Although we may not learn who he has in mind for offensive and defensive coordinator jobs, we should learn when will he like to have those jobs filled.

Why Reich

The entire Panthers locker room and many fans wanted to see Steve Wilks get the job in Carolina and have an opportunity to build on the progress he made as interim head coach, but David Tepper and company selected Reich. The obvious major difference is offensive versus defensive background, but what else set Reich apart? Players and fans who openly campaigned want to know why Frank, and so do we.
