Drake Maye Puts an End to Transfer Questions

With all the transfer portal entrees and offensive coordinator Phil Longo darting for the same position at Wisconsin, the questions about UNC quarterback Drake Maye’s status as a Tar Heel football player reached an all-time high Wednesday. The red shirt freshman ended any speculation that he would leave Chapel Hill for greener pastures with a simple tweet that said:

Could never leave this place, I’m a Tar Heel.

If he decided to enter the portal, Drake Maye would have been one of the most coveted transfers in recent history. But if you knew anything about the Maye family, there was no question about his plans to stay. They’re Tar Heel royalty. His father, Mark, played football at UNC from 1983-88. His brother, Luke, was a Tar Heel basketball great from 2015-19. His Mom, Aimee, attended UNC and brother, Beau, is currently enrolled.

Drake has bled Carolina Blue since birth.
