In a podcast with Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager, former Panthers’ head coach Matt Rhule expressed regret in taking the job in Carolina. When asked what he would change based on his experience in the league, Rhule said he would’ve never taken the job.

“I think I probably would’ve taken another job. It’s a great place with wonderful people, but I don’t know if I was a fit there.”

Rhule added that the timeline for winning changed and took credit for some of the success the Panthers are experiencing under interim coach Steve Wilks.

“What was a four year plan became a two year, five game plan real quick. I’m not angry, but if it’s going to be that quick then we’re going to sign some more free agents.”

“The trajectory we were on was correct,” Rhule continued. “It was to have a team that next year could make the big trade. I think you see the signs of it right now. I give Steve and the coaches all the credit, but I’m a part of that building process.”
