Matt Rhule on Sean Payton Rumors: Dave Told Me There’s Nothing to It

A report was released by Front Office Sports that the Panthers were already eyeing Sean Payton as Matt Rhule’s replacement.

“The Carolina Panthers are eyeing the Super Bowl-winning coach as the savior who can lead them back to the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl, sources told Front Office Sports.

The Panthers might be willing to wait a year while the former New Orleans Saints head coach recharges his batteries on TV.”

Friday, after the first day of minicamp, Panthers’ head coach Matt Rhule addressed the rumor saying that owner David Tepper called him and told him “there’s nothing to it” – adding that Tepper told him he looked at the rebuild process as one that would take five years.

In previous stops Rhule has seen vast improvement in year three. The jury is still out about whether that will happen in Carolina, but he should at least be afforded to opportunity – and apparently David Tepper agrees. What happens after that is up in the air.
