What Does the Commitment of GG Jackson Mean for UNC Coach Hubert Davis?

The Tar Heels landed one of its biggest recruits in a long time in G.G. Jackson. The 6’9 forward from South Carolina is joining guard Simeon Wilcher in UNC’s 2023 recruiting cycle. Jackson is ranked anywhere from 5th to 8th in most recruiting databases and some think he could move to be the top prospect in his class. If that happens, it’ll be the first time UNC has landed the top overall prospect in his class since Harrison Barnes.

Jackson has good size and frame already for a four. He runs the floor well and has good lateral skills and is a quick leaper off his feet. He will excel as a rebounder, defender and rim-runner. He has expanded his game and can knock down jumpers and beat people off of the dribble. He will be a weapon who will impact the floor on both ends.

It has been quite the off-season for UNC. Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Leaky Black, and Armondo Bacot are all returning to UNC and they’ve added some depth with their 2022 recruiting class. There is a high probability that UNC will enter this upcoming season as the preseason number 1 team. Coach Hubert Davis said he felt UNC was irrelevant the last several years and he wanted to bring them back to where he felt like they belonged. It’s clear after their national title game appearance that UNC is back to relevance and adding a recruit like G.G. Jackson further proves it.
