THE RESULT
- Following today’s 31-14 loss to Buffalo, Carolina fell to a 5-9 record on the season. The Panthers are now 2-6 all-time against the Bills.
PRESSURE OFF THE EDGE
- Carolina tallied four sacks today, increasing its season total to 36, tied for 6th most by any team this year through Sunday’s early window of games.
- DE Yetur Gross-Matos tallied 2.5 sacks at Buffalo, a new single-game high. In the first quarter, Gross-Matos knocked the ball out of the hands of QB Josh Allen, notching his first strip-sack of the season.
- Carolina is tied for 5th in the NFL with five strip sacks this year.
- DE Brian Burns tallied one sack, bringing his season total to 9.0, t-14th in the NFL
- OLB Haason Reddick increased his sack total to 11.0 this season, t-8th in the NFL.
CHINN TALLIES FIRST INT OF THE SEASON
- FS Jeremy Chinn recorded his first interception of the season, picking off Bills QB Josh Allen in the second quarter. The play marked the ninth interception by the Panthers defense this year.
- Chinn’s takeaway set Carolina’s offense up at Buffalo’s 37-yard line, helping the Panthers offense to score a touchdown and successful two-point conversion on the ensuing drive.
- Chinn led the Panthers with seven tackles at Buffalo, increasing his season total to 98 tackles.
NEWTON SCORES ON THE GROUND
- QB Cam Newton tallied a rushing touchdown today, marking his fifth consecutive game with a rushing touchdown, the longest streak of his career and third-longest in Panthers history (Christian McCaffrey 7 in 2019 and DeAngelo Williams 8 in 2008).
- Newton finished the game with 156 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception while completing 18-of-38 passes. He added 71 rushing yards on 15 attempts, his most yards in a game this season.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- The Panthers remain the only team this season to not allow a touchdown on the opening drive this season. Carolina forced a three-and-out on the Bills first drive today.
- WR Robby Anderson tallied a career-best 33 rushing yards on two attempts at Buffalo. Anderson ripped off a 30-yard rush on the first play after Chinn’s interception, tied for the longest rush by any Panthers player this year.
- WR DJ Moore caught six receptions for 48 yards. He has tallied at least three receptions in each of his last 20 games played.
- RB Ameer Abdullah tallied 55 scrimmage yards (48 receiving, 7 rushing) and a receiving touchdown.
- RB Chuba Hubbard averaged 5.0 yards per rush (8 rushes, 40 rushing yards), his highest average in a single game.
