NC State men’s basketball redshirt sophomore guard Dereon Seabron was named ACC Player of the Week on Monday by the league office.

ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

Seabron recorded back-to-back double-doubles to open the season, finishing with a then career-high 18 points and 12 rebounds in the Pack’s season-opening win over Bucknell and then followed up by re-setting his career-high with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Colgate on Saturday.

Seabron scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half of the Colgate win, including the winning two free throws after being fouled with the score tied and two seconds remaining in the game.

For the opening week, Seabron averaged 19.5 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

The Norfolk, Va., native ended last season’s regular season by being named ACC Freshman of the Week. Seabron scored a then career-high 17 points and added career-highs in rebounds (13) and blocks (3) in the Pack’s regular season finale win at Notre Dame.

Dating back to last season, Seabron has posted double-doubles in three consecutive regular season contests.

Seabron averaged 5.2 points per game last season as a freshman, but after a season-ending injury to leading scorer Devon Daniels at the end of January, he took advantage of his increased role, averaging eight points per game over the last six weeks of the season.
