Report: Cam Newton is Meeting with the Carolina Panthers

Everyone stay calm…

According to a report by Jonathan Alexander of the Charlotte Observer, quarterback Cam Newton is meeting with Panthers’ owner David Tepper, head coach Matt Rhule and vice president of football operations and senior advisor to the owner, Steve Drummond to discuss potentially signing the former MVP.

Sheena Quick of Fox Sports 1340, reported that talks between the Panthers and Newton started earlier this week.

Carolina is need of quarterback with Sam Darnold sidelined at least four weeks with an incomplete fracture of his right shoulder blade. Newton has been a free agent since the Patriots released him before the season.

The Panthers signed quarterback Matt Barkley off of the Titans’ practice squad, but with Newton available and the team still in a position to make the playoffs, an upgrade under center had to be made and Newton would certainly be it.
