Report: Sam Darnold Out Multiple Weeks with Shoulder Injury

According to The Athletic’s Joe Person, Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to miss several weeks with a shoulder injury.

Darnold originally injured his right shoulder during the Panthers’ week-eight win against the Falcons when he was leveled by linebacker Foye Oluokun while scrambling for a first down in the 4th quarter. He also suffered a concussion on the play.

This week when asked if the former 1st round draft pick was still the best starter for Carolina, despite his struggles, head coach Matt Rhule said the focus of the team is ensuring Sam is healthy.

The Panthers’ website reported that the team, with Darnold’s status uncertain, planned to sign quarterback Matt Barkley off of the Titans’ practice squad – pending a physical.

Carolina travels to Arizona this week to take on the Cardinals.
