Spooky Hours: Observations From the Hornets’ Halloween Win Over Cleveland

After a disappointing game in Miami Friday, the Charlotte Hornets were looking for a bounce back win on Halloween and they were able to secure that against Portland. Charlotte shot 20-42 from the 3-point line and were lead by 27 points from LaMelo Ball, 26 from Kelly Oubre and 19 points from Miles Bridges. The Hornets were boosted by the return of Terry Rozier, who scored 14 points in his return. Having Terry back is a huge addition for the Hornets. Let’s breakdown tonight’s win with some observations.

Bench:

Having Scary Terry back in the lineup sent Kelly Oubre back into his role as a lynch pin off the bench and tonight Oubre played his role very well. When Kelly plays well, the Hornets are going to be very difficult to beat. PJ Washington played his best game of the season tonight, shooting a perfect 8-8 from the field – scoring 17 points.

Ball Movement:

The Hornets had 36 assists on 46 made baskets tonight, while only having 9 turnovers. They shot 52% from the floor and 47% from the 3-point line. The Hornets were able to move the ball and find great looks all night. The only knock knock on the Hornets tonight was their free throw shooting. They only shot 62% from the foul line tonight. Fortunately, their free throw shooting didn’t cost them tonight, but it could cost them eventually.

LaMelo Ball Bounces Back:

After a rough road trip to the sunshine state, LaMelo was able to have a strong performance tonight. LaMelo shoots a better 3 ball at home – hitting 4-9 from 3 and 10 – 20 from the floor. Ball also chipped in 9 rebounds and 7 assists, while only turning the ball over once. LaMelo must get better on the road as the Hornets start a west coast trip Wednesday. When the Hornets have played on the road LaMelo has shot 36% from the floor and 16% from 3.

Hornets take on the Cleveland Cavaliers next, which will be their last home game until November 12th. The Hornets start a 5-game west coast trip Wednesday against the Warriors, Kings, Clippers, Lakers, and Grizzlies
