Panthers Activate Stephon Gilmore

The Panthers’ defense may be getting two huge bursts of talent Sunday with they take on the Falcons in Atlanta. Friday, head coach Matt Rhule said he was “confident” Shaq Thompson would be available for the game, and Saturday all-pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore was activated to the 53-man roster. Carolina acquired Gilmore, who hasn’t played since injuring his hamstring near the end of last year, in a trade with New England at the beginning of the month.

The activation is a good sign that Gilmore will be available, although Rhule said the team will see how he feels after practice Saturday and ahead of the game.

The Panthers are desperate to end a four-game skid and with their offense struggling the way it is, defense will have to lead the way and having Gilmore on the field will be a big help.
