All-pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore is eligible to come of the NFL’s physically unable to perform list this week after being placed on in at the beginning of the season by his former team – the New England Patriots. Gilmore has been recovering from a quad injury sustained at the end of last season. While the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year has been limited in practice, during his Friday press conference head coach Matt Rhule says there is a possibility he’ll play on Sunday against the Giants.
“One of the benefits of practicing on Saturday is being able to see tomorrow. It’s up in the air. He did a little bit on Wednesday, played a little more and ran a little faster on Thursday. Today was a walk-through for everybody and meetings, so obviously he was involved in that. He’ll go out there tomorrow and practice. We’ve prepared as if he’s playing and not playing.”
Gilmore would be a huge addition to a defense that, while playing good football, is looking to limit chunk plays that have plagued them in recent weeks and has seen a slight drop-off since 1st round draft pick Jaycee Horn went down against the Texans.
In other injury news, Shaq Thompson (foot), Terrace Marshall (concussion) and Giovanni Ricci (concussion) have all been listed as out for Sunday’s game. Cam Erving (neck/illness) and Alex Erickson (concussion) are both questionable. Rhule says rookie Brady Christensen would start at left tackle if Erving is unable to play.
Kickoff for Sunday’s game at the Meadowlands is 1pm.
