Week 3 of the NFL Season is in the books. Statements were made, while others disappointed. Let’s break down the action.
Chargers vs Chiefs:
Raise your hand if you had the Kansas City Chiefs in last place after three weeks. I know nobody expected the Chiefs to be in last place, but here we are. Kansas City’s defense continues to struggle – giving up 30 points again. The Chiefs’ defense is awful and if it doesn’t improve Kansas City will have a hard enough time winning the AFC West, let alone get back to the Super Bowl. Kansas City is last in the NFL in rushing defense, putting a lot of pressure on its offense. Patrick Mahomes threw two more interceptions, making it three in the last two weeks. Kansas City could easily be 0-3 right now. Justin Herbert was very good, throwing for 4 TDs and sets the Chargers up for an important showdown with the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night.
Packers vs 49ers:
That baaaaaaaaad man Aaron Rodgers did it again. With 37 seconds left and no timeouts, Aaron Rodgers was able to lead his team down the field for a Mason Crosby 51-yard field goal to beat the 49ers. San Francisco is a team that has given Green Bay problems recently, so this was a big win for Green Bay who seems to be rounding into form after a disastrous performance vs the Saints week 1. San Francisco was down 17-0, but fought back to take the lead on a Jimmy Garoppolo pass to Kyle Juszczyk. With elite quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, 37 seconds is more than enough time to get into field goal range. Green Bay moves to 2-1 and hosts a struggling Steelers offense on Sunday.
Tampa Bay vs LA Rams:
Matthew Stafford wanted to join the Rams to play in big time games and he didn’t disappoint on Sunday. Stafford threw for 343 yards and 4 TDs as the Rams defeated Tampa 34-24. Desean Jackson made his presence felt, catching a 75-yard TD and Cooper Kupp complemented Jackson well – catching 9 passes for 96 yards and 2 TDs. Tampa Bay’s running game was nonexistent, as Brady threw 55 times. Through three games, Tampa is only averaging 56 rushing yards per game. Even more concerning for Tampa is their pass defense that’s giving up 338 yards per game. Tampa Bay will be going into New England pissed off and Tom Brady will come out ready to go scorched earth on his former team in Foxboro next week.
Quick thoughts
- What an ending to the Ravens vs Lions game, as Justin Tucker ended it on a NFL record 66 yard game-winning field goal. Ravens could easily be 0-3 right now, but have gutted out two straight wins.
- The injury bug has bitten the Panthers, with Christian McCaffery and Jaycee Horn expected to miss a few weeks.
- The Steelers’ offense continues to struggle. Pittsburgh needs to make a call to Cam Newton ASAP!!
- Mac Jones stunk on Sunday, throwing 3 interceptions. New England is staring at 1-3 with Tom Brady coming back to Foxboro mad as hellm coming off a loss…good luck.
- Speaking of rookie quarterbacks, the 2021 QB class has all struggled. Justin Fields got sacked 9 times and only completed 6/20 passes in his first start, Zach Wilson struggled vs the Broncos, Trevor Lawrence threw an awful pick 6 and has struggled as well, and we’ve barely seen any of Trey Lance. This group of QBs will need time and patience to develop.
