Wolfpack Cruise to Victory Versus Furman

Looking for a better start to this week’s game, NC State didn’t quite get that after fumbling on their opening drive. Tragedy was avoided as the Wolfpack defense held and forced a 48 yard Furman field goal attempt that was no good.

The Wolfpack got the ball back after the miss and drove down the field thanks to Bam Knight and a 42-yard run that set up a short score – putting NC State ahead 7-0 with 8:29 left in the first.

After forcing a short Furman punt, the Wolfpack got on the board again with a 32 yard Chris Dunn field goal with 3:06 left on the clock. That score would carry over into the end of the first with the Wolfpack ahead by 10.

NC State kept their foot on the pedal, getting yet another touchdown as Devin Leary rolled left and found Dylan Parham from four yards out to push the Wolfpack lead to 17-0 with just under 14 minutes left in the half. After three straight punts between both teams, Bam Knight got things going again with another big gain inside the Furman 25 yard line. Leary iced the drive calling his own number from seven yards out. Dunn added the PAT – making the score 24-0 in favor of the Wolfpack with 6:49 left before the break.

Leary struck again this time finding Anthony Smith, who got behind the Furman defense for a 42-yard touchdown pass with NC State cruising to a 31-0 lead at the 2:28 mark of the second period. But Leary wasn’t done…he connected with Thayer Thomas on a nice pass play in the back corner of the end zone – sending the game to 38-0 at halftime.

Ricky Person Jr. made the score 45-0 at the 10:53 mark of the third quarter after an NC State interception from Tyler Baker-Williams. Furman took the zero off the board with a 16-yard scoring pass with 2:09 left in the third cutting the Wolfpack lead to 45-7.

After a scoreless 4th quarter, NC State sailed to a 45-7 victory, setting up a huge ACC matchup against Clemson next week.
