After Saturday’s lack luster performance from the Wolfpack, then add in Coach Doeren’s announcement of two starters being done for the season, some NC State fans are saying “here we go again.”
Saturday was a major missed opportunity for this squad to show that this team was different (as mentioned in our season games to watch for), instead NC State laid an egg in head-scratching fashion. No disrespect to Mississippi State, but this was game on paper the Wolfpack should have won. But that’s why the game is played, right?
So, what’s next? While disappointed, the season isn’t over as the players available for media coverage today mentioned. First things first is getting the bad taste of a loss out of your mouth. What better way to do that than feasting on an FCS Furman team heading to Carter Finley Stadium Saturday night for a slight tune up before top 10 Clemson heads to Raleigh next week, for what was setting up to be a primetime showdown before last week’s hiccup in Starkville.
The inability to run the ball on top of missed red zone chances did the Wolfpack in after getting punched in the mouth on the opening kickoff – founding themselves down 7-0 early in the contest. While this is a veteran group, last week was some players’ first time playing in that type of hostile environment and it showed.
This team has been here before, just last season to be exact. Then Wolfpack will be just fine. It’s still a long season.
