Panthers Trade for a Kicker

The Panthers went the offseason and most of training camp with just on kicker on their roster – Joey Slye. Now they have three.

Friday, the team announced they’ve traded a conditional seventh round pick to the Giants for Ryan Santoso. According to the release, the seventh-round pick they owned originally belonged to the Dolphins and will be the higher of the Titans or Patriots seventh-rounders next year (as long as Santoso plays in two games here).

Ironically, Santoso was competing in New York with former Panthers’ kicker Grahan Gano, who Carolina moved on from last year in favor of Slye – who has struggled recently.

With a few days until final roster cuts and a little over two weeks until the Panthers open the regular season, all eyes will be on the new kicking competition in Carolina.

*****UPDATE*****

The Panthers have cut recently signed kicker Dominik Eberle. The competition is down to two.
