Joint Practices Will Tell Us A Lot About this Panthers Team

The Carolina Panthers are two weeks into training camp, but there are still quite a few questions that need to be answered. What will the composition of the offensive line be? Who will serve as Christian McCaffrey’s primary backup? How will the linebacking crew take shape with Denzel Perryman sidelined for an extended period of time?

Matt Rhule and company will gain clarity this week as the team travels to Indiana to have two joint practices with the Colts ahead of their preseason matchup this Sunday.

“The joint practices will tell us a lot about who we are,” Rhule said Tuesday after the team’s final practice before the trip. “We’ve had two competitive days the last two days and now we’ll compete against someone else. We’re talking about some great players that Indy has. It will be a good measuring stick for our guys.”

Expect attention to be paid closely to how the offense looks against a Colts defense that was ranked in the top ten last season. How comfortable and confident does Darnold look in pocket? Will he take shots down field? How does the offensive line hold up against the pass and the run?

If Panthers fans wanted a true idea of where this team is at, Thursday and Friday will tell us.
