If you follow the Carolina Hurricanes, you’re obviously aware of the lack of a number one goaltender for years.
After today’s recent trade, it doesn’t look like that is changing soon.
The Carolina Hurricanes announced they have traded goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the Detroit Red Wings for Jonathan Bernier and a 2021 3rd round pick. Detroit later announced that they have signed Nedelijkovic to a two-year deal.
What exactly is the front office thinking? While Ned did have a small showing size of NHL game experience, in that showing he time and time again proved that he was a starting NHL goalie. Now a team that many had as true cup contenders heading into the offseason with NO NHL goalies on the roster has the Hurricanes’ promising goalie.
Unless GM Don Waddel has a goalie hidden under his sleeve, this might be one of the worst trades in franchise history. The numbers show that the Hurricanes clearly weren’t sold on him as the answer…which is cool….ok actually, it’s not. The risk here is completely mind-boggling and will hopefully not set the franchise back to a post-season drought that fans were just starting to forget about.
Welp…here we go again.
