The Carolina Panthers will host the team’s inaugural Carolina Panthers Spelling Bee regional championships March 20-21, 2021, at the Atrium Health Dome on the Bank of America Stadium campus. Separate spelling bee championships will be held for North Carolina and South Carolina student spellers. The championships will advance four students to the Scripps National Spelling Bee tournament beginning June 12. The Carolina Panthers Spelling Bee serves an 83-county region in North Carolina and a 28-county region in South Carolina.
“The Carolina Panthers are pleased to partner with school districts across the region and the iconic Scripps Spelling Bee to provide students with a unique competition experience that celebrates the hard work and achievement of young spellers,” said Riley Fields, Carolina Panthers director of community relations. “The Atrium Health Dome provides the opportunity for students to enjoy the thrill of an in-person event and the space needed to meet important health and safety guidelines.”
“We are thrilled to welcome the Carolina Panthers to the Scripps National Spelling Bee program and congratulate them on hosting their first-ever local spelling bee this weekend,” said Dr. J. Michael Durnil, executive director of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. “We know students have had to sacrifice many normal aspects of their lives over the last year, so we’re delighted that the Carolina Panthers have stepped in to give students across the North Carolina and South Carolina regions this important opportunity to showcase their skills on the Panthers’ own playing field. We wish good luck to all the spellers participating this weekend and look forward to welcoming the champions to the national competition.”
